Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster
Its racing legacy includes records for endurance that have themselves endured for decades. As a sports car for the open road, it's won hearts and fulfilled dreams. It's pioneered innovations in performance, safety and luxury. Like no other car, it's truly timeless, and a true icon.
A race that knows no finish line.
In an old mill in 1967, two engineers with a passion for motorsports began turning Mercedes-Benz sedans into winning racecars. Today, AMG continues to create victory on the track and desire on the streets of the world. Every Mercedes-AMG vehicle is the product of craftsmen, designers, engineers and racers who live for a singular goal: Driving Performance.
Born to perform, developed to outperform
A Mercedes-AMG engine starts with the state of the art. Everything from fuel pressure to exhaust routing is developed to quicken, heighten and intensify its response, and yours. From patented processes to cut friction to a new generation of electrified performance, AMG technology is fueled by its racing success.
Eight cylinders, two turbos, a single pair of hands.
A high-tech, high-torque powerhouse, each SL biturbo V8 is crafted by its own master in the AMG tradition. Paired with an AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9-speed, specific SL refinements to both engine and gearbox help rush the 469-hp SL 55 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, or the 577-hp SL 63 in just 3.5. Disclaimer[4]
History rewritten, in under three seconds
The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE is the most powerful SL ever produced. It teams a handcrafted 4.0L biturbo V8 and AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9-speed with an electric rear motor, its own 2-speed gearbox, and advanced hybrid battery. Total output of 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft of torque can rush you to 60 mph in a breathtaking 2.8 seconds. Disclaimer[4]
The ideal power formula, from Formula 1
Technology developed by the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS racing team to win in Formula 1® has come directly to the new SL 43. An innovative electric exhaust-gas turbo, hybrid assist and AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT 9-speed team up for 416 hp. The first 4-cylinder SL since the '60s offers triple the output.
Driving modes, fingertip-close.
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT lets you fine-tune the throttle, shifting, damping, steering and more. Color display buttons on the steering wheel engage preset modes from Comfort to Sport+, or an Individual mode you can customize. The SL 55 Performance and SL 63 models add a RACE mode, while the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE adds its own hybrid modes. Disclaimer[5]
A legend turns a new corner
The newest SL was developed from the curving road up by Mercedes-AMG. And it rushes its rich legacy ahead with handling innovations never before available on an SL, from agile performance all-wheel drive to dynamic all-wheel steering.
Gets down, or up, to business
Standard on the V8s, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ intelligently apportions torque to all four wheels, an SL first. Multimode adaptive damping is standard on the SL 55 and an SL43 option. AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, standard on both SL 63 models and an SL 55 option, can actively adjust at each wheel to help resist body roll. Available front-axle lift can help make steep driveways less fearsome. Disclaimer[6] Disclaimer[7]
Goes all-in on steering
Rear-axle steering can turn the rear wheels of the SL 55 and SL 63 models up to 2.5 degrees, in phase with or opposite the fronts. Intelligent control factors speed, turning angle and other parameters for quicker, more stable handling at speed, or tighter, more nimble parking maneuvers.
Decelerates decisively
Massively powerful brakes feature perforated and ventilated discs, with silver, red or yellow 6-piston front calipers, depending on model and trim. AMG Carbon Ceramic brakes are standard on the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE, with calipers in bronze. Black calipers are an option for all brakes. Disclaimer[8] Disclaimer[9] Disclaimer[10]
An even sweeter performance suite
The AMG Dynamic PLUS Package further sharpens the SL's responsiveness. Available on the SL 55 and standard on the SL 63 is an electronic limited-slip rear differential. The SL 63 E PERFORMANCE delivers its benefits virtually. Yellow calipers, active engine mounts and a RACE mode each add their own verve. Disclaimer[5]
Advancement is the SL tradition
There may be no sports car with such a rich history. Of making history. From superlative performance to advanced lightness, it's a purer sports car, a grander tourer, and a more openly ebullient roadster.
A body to drive for
An intelligent composition of aluminum, high-strength steel, magnesium and fiber composites creates a body that's more rigid, more safety-focused, and more precisely crafted. It's also more aerodynamic, with a lower center of gravity. All with undeniably seductive looks.
Go for the flow
Extreme attention to every aerodynamic detail draws numerous benefits from thin air. From an advanced grille shutter system to a multistage rear spoiler, the SL's active aero responds to a range of conditions to optimize cooling, minimize drag, emphasize downforce, and heighten enjoyment.
Clear as the sun
Modern art and technology unite for visual, tactile and tactical rewards in the SL cockpit. Controls react to your touch or your natural voice. Large displays are crisp in design and clear in function. The 11.9-inch central touchscreen tilt-adjusts to fight top-down glare.
All the looks. Looks the part
Its aesthetics instantly convey its athletics. Its style speaks to its substance, with fluid lines and a solid stance. Can a car be so completely new while advancing the role of an icon? Like no other car, an SL can.
The soft top raised, and lowered
The SL's triple-layer power soft top is more than an exquisitely tailored triumph of style. It eliminates nearly 50 lbs where it can have the greatest effect on lowering the car's center of gravity. In 15 seconds, it Z-folds to form its own rear deck. All without intruding on trunk space.
Practicality added, luxury multiplied
A 2+2 seating configuration adds up to versatility and luxury unmatched by previous SL cabins. The multicontour front seats feature power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage programs. AIRSCARF® neck warming helps lengthen the top-down driving season. All standard.
Digital sensibility, analog sensuality
The SL's "hyper-analog" cockpit elevates a tradition of rich materials and sculptural design within a highly digital environment. A reconfigurable instrument panel is set into a classic gauge visor. The dash flows into the doors and console. Every sense finds a connection.
Bask in the sun, and all the shades
MANUFAKTUR is the name for a higher order of art and artisanry under the Three-Pointed Star. Exclusive paintwork includes heritage hues and modern matte shades. And Signature interiors match exquisite Nappa leathers, in four colors, with deep carpeting and special details.
